Modern Warfare 2 Wins Best Shooter and Multiplayer

The most prestigious, Game Of The Year award, was won by Uncharted 2: Among Thieves but Modern Warfare 2 managed to win the “Best Shooter” and “Best Multiplayer Game” awards. The awards were presented to Zampella and West by none other than “Iron” Mike Tyson (which as a boxing fan would have been worth the trip alone).

2500 Modern Warfare 2 Cheaters Banned From Steam

Despite the VAC antic-cheat system being used on the PC version of Modern Warfare 2, cheating is still prevalent in multiplayer matches. There’s good news for the honest players out there though…. steps are being taken to rid the game of the hackers / cheaters.

In a tweet by Infinity Ward’s creative strategist, Robert Bowling, he confirms that around 2500 known cheaters will be banned from Steam (the MP matchmaking system), rendering their games multiplayer-less. The tweet came in reply to a frustrated fan who had this to say to the Infinity Ward front-man.

On the MW2 Airport Massacre

There's a Jesse Stern interview on GamePro talking with the scriptwriter for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 about a number of pertinent topics, including the controversial airport mission. "People have really strong reactions to the airport scene and it's been fascinating because we all wanted to make it something that would be upsetting, disturbing, but also something people relate to," he says of the airport scenario. "As for the effect it has on you, that's not for us to determine. Hopefully, it does have an emotional impact and it seems to have riled up a lot of people in interesting ways. Some of them good. Some of them bad." He also describes how testing that level went:

Steam Bans Grey Market MW2 Keys

Steam users who purchased keys for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 through what turn out to be grey market sources have found themselves banned from playing the game. Apparently users have been able to buy discounted keys from sources that buy them in bulk for cyber cafes, foreign sales, and similar setups, only to find this is a no-no. A post to the Steam Users' Forums by Valve's BurtonJ says: "If you purchased just a cd key for the game then you purchased from an illegitimate seller and the game has been revoked." In a later post he clarifies: "I am sorry but you all did not purchase from a legitimate retailer. It is recommended that you contact the seller to request a refund. In the future, you should only buy unopened retail boxed copies from legitimate retailers or purchase via legitimate digital download services such as Steam and Direct2Drive."

Modern Warfare 2 Ban In Russia

There is a very controversial level in Modern Warfare 2 that caused a bit of a storm when it was leaked before the game was even released. Most of you have already played ‘No Russian’ by now but it’s set in a Russian airport where you’re part of a team of terrorists mowing down innocent civilians.

It turns out that the Russian authorities have not taken kindly to this part of Modern Warfare 2 and decided to recall all copies of the record breaking shooter, effectively banning it.

Infinity Ward has opted to patch the level out entirely for Russian consumers, and an edited version of the game is expected to be re-released in less than a month, pending government approval. Even that may not pass, however, considering the entire game is based around a war between the US and Russian forces.

Russian gamers are apparently very unhappy with the game’s content. One Web site, GotPS3, railed against Infinity Ward for catering to an American audience and ignoring the sensitivities of other cultures. The site believes that Infinity Ward portrays the Russians as terrorists.

'Modern Warfare' explodes onto scene

Activision Blizzard had one mission in mind when launching "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2:" To make the videogame the largest entertainment launch in history.

After only one day of sales, the heavily hyped military actioner seems to be closing in on its target, with an estimated 4.7 million units sold in the U.S. and the U.K. alone, generating $310 million for the gamemaker.

Comparably, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," the top pic of the year at the box office and on DVD, opened with $220 million in its first weekend, and sold 7.5 million DVD and Blu-rays, in its first week. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" still has the top opening weekend of any pic to date with a $394 million worldwide haul.

The hackers for Modern Warfare 2 have a new Trainer that they can use to cheat, here is the list for it.
